“My stay at Donna and Kevin’s property was amazing. It is very comfortable and provides everything you would need. The grounds are gorgeous and the view is breathtaking. It is a great get away from the hustle of Kona Town, but close enough if you need or want to make your way down there. It is a higher elevation and gets a bit chilly , which I very much enjoyed after spending the days at the hot beach. Donna and Kevin were amazing hosts and made me feel right at home. They were also a wealth of information and have all kinds of ideas if you need some inspiration on your vacation. I absolutely loved my stay there and can’t wait to go back!!!”

“Paradise ! Donna and Kevin, the owners, are delightful & helpful hosts. They gave us delicious fruits from their property & a wealth of information of the area. A safe & quiet place with great views & close to Hawi, an artsy place with a great farmers market. The Hub is a wonderful place to eat & the shops are fun & not far to jump in the ocean”

“This was the perfect place for us to stay in Hawi. Setting was beautiful, Donna & Kevin were gracious and helpful and we made good use of the kitchen-dinning area set up in the garage. The garage area is more like a covered lanai, we could sit and watch the birds and enjoy a view of the garden while it was raining. We were close to town and I recommend the Bamboo restaurant.”

“We loved our stay at Always in Season. It’s hard to decide which aspect was best. I think picking fresh citrus and squeezing fresh juice was among the top. The property was lovely and quiet. We were able to relax in the privacy of the yard. The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. Donna and Kevin were lovely hosts, giving us great advice on where to go as we visited the area. I would highly recommend Always in Season and I hope to return.”

“A wonderful spot from which to explore the north and northwest areas of the island, away from resort-land. Donna was a gracious, easygoing host, quick to offer excellent advice about where to roam and where to eat. She was terrific with our toddler, who now keeps talking about wanting to go to “Donna’s house.” We had free rein to explore the property, pick fruit, and make our own fresh juice. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and extraordinarily quiet. The open-air living room/kitchen area were unusual but easy to get used to. And when we discovered we’d made an accident with our booking (short-changing ourselves a night), Donna was completely accommodating and set us up in her additional guest space, which featured an outdoor shower with hot water that we absolutely LOVED.”

“My wife and I truly enjoyed a taste of “rural” Big Island living. We weren’t there long enough but really appreciated the hospitality of our hosts. The bedroom and bath were very comfortable. The “kitchen/dining area” in the garage was a bit different but well supplied and worked very well. We’d recommend staying here for a taste of more “real” Hawaii living and we plan to return. It’s well situated to take in attractions of the north of the Big Island and still be close enough to the great beaches in the Kohala district. Sushi Rock restaurant in Hawi was terrific.”

“We were very impressed with our stay at “Always In Season” and would highly recommend it to others. It was our first time on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were in Hawi for a wedding and spent four nights there. Donna and Kevin were very gracious hosts and attentive to our questions and needs. They checked in with us every day to provide suggestions for activities and ways to have an enjoyable time in the Hawi area. We loved the hiking ,snorkeling, and park suggestions. Having fresh fruit-oranges, grapefruit, lemons, bananas and papaya every day from their bounteous garden was a real treat! There was a fruit juicer and blender in the kitchen, so we were able to make our protein smoothies every day. We enjoyed eating the fruit without juicing as well as it was so sweet and juicy. We enjoyed having coffee outside in the morning, and a glass of wine in the evening with the wonderful view of the ocean, of their garden and sheep, and with the horses next door. The bedroom and bathroom were downright comfortable, and we had a lot of privacy. The views from the bedroom and bathroom of the garden area were lovely. The kitchen provided all the usual necessities and more. It had a sitting area and a view of the front yard if you wanted it. There was also another separate sitting room on the property to read or relax with views of the garden. All in all, we wish we had more time to spend there and will return to the wonderful Always in Season VRBO.”

“This property was exactly as described on VRBO and the Always-in-Season Retreat personal site. A beautiful 3-acre property with varied vegetation including fruit bearing trees, a perfect site at 1500 feet elevation with views of the ocean and Maui across the channel, and comfortable evening temperatures. Our hosts Donna and Kevin were welcoming and friendly, and interesting conversationalists. We had a thoroughly relaxing month stay – the Kawi-North Kohala area has much of interest, and the 19-mile ride along the ridge to Waimea is worth doing more than once. This property is a good alternative to a resort or condo stay.”

“My time in this sweet accommodation was perfect. The beach is 20 minutes away and the hiking trails are plentiful. Each morning I would get a fresh orange or grapefruit from the tree in the yard and it was a real treat for this Alaskan in December! The hosts are willing to tell me about places in the community, like a great farmers market and some epic local scenic hikes. It was clean and comfy and out of the crowd wonderful. I really hope to return next year!”

“We enjoyed 5 days at the Always in Season resort. Donna greeted us with an overflowing basket of tropical fruit and beautiful flowers from her 3-acre farm, and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There is a separate eating area well-equipped for cooking your meals, or for blending up a fruit smoothie. At 1,500 feet above the ocean, we had good views of Maui and the sunsets once the tropical storms passed (luckily the hurricanes bypassed the island). The pictures on the VRBO site well-represented the setting, which is quiet, peaceful, and lush, with fresh fruit to pick as it ripens (the bananas and papayas were tasty). The Saturday Market in Hawi was a good place to sample unusual tropical fruit, and the local coffee shop served the best iced Kona coffee. Donna was happy to provide detailed information about the local swimming spots, the markets, events in Hawi, and her favorite places to hike. It was fun to get acquainted with Chester the dog, too.”

“We had a great time staying at this property. We live on Island and like to get out once in a while to experience different areas. This property was so very nice – clean, well appointed, beautiful grounds, and very relaxing! Donna is awesome and very knowledgeable. She’s so fun to talk to and happy to share tips about great places to hike to, things to do, places to eat, etc. The property itself is really amazing and would be especially interesting to anyone interested in farming, gardening, landscape, sustainability, etc. We are looking forward to staying there again in the future!”

“Our stay with Donna was wonderful. She is a terrific hostess; sorry Kevin was away during our stay hopefully we will meet him next time (yes we will definitely return). Our accommodations were very roomy, comfy & CLEAN! They certainly have an awesome slice of paradise and we are very lucky that they choose to share it!!! We really enjoyed having breakfast (usually fresh fruit) outside every morning; their property is lush and beautiful. Donna gave us lots of useful info about dining, hiking, sightseeing, farmers markets etc. Having Chester (her dog) around was great for 2 dog lovers like us; he was very well behaved and honestly we wish he would have spent more time with us. This was one of the best VRBO’s we’ve stayed at. Highly recommend Always In Season Retreat!”

“Want a luscious Hawaii experience in a tropical setback setting, and enjoy “the real Hawaii” from the local point of view? If so, this is the spot for you. This is a place of serenity without the fanfare of resort, yet it’s in close proximity to the myriad of island beaches, hiking trails and other adventures the Big Island offers. Our hosts provided us with the solitude we longed for, but were always available to give us helpful information. They themselves are fascinating and inspiring “keepers” of this gorgeous location, very committed to a sustainable lifestyle and caring of the entire planet.”

“We honestly couldn’t have been happier with our choice to stay with Kevin and Donna at their Always in Season retreat. This couple understand true and genuine hospitality and generously share their gift from their hearts. The rooms are spacious and inviting, the bed incredibly comfortable, and the kitchen is fully stocked for all of your cooking needs from simple to gourmet meals. Kevin and Donna readily share the delicious bounty from their garden, their insights and secrets to dining, hiking, swimming, and other activities beyond the regular tourist areas. Most of all, they share their love of life and their Island. We miss you guys already!”

“Wow. I don’t think anyone can beat the hospitality and customer service of Donna and Kevin. I felt right at home and would highly recommend the place to a good friend or relative. Especially to someone with interest in tasty, healthy eating and cooking – explore the library or ask Donna for a wellness class and she’ll design one for you! Located in upper Hawi the air is fresh and crisp with beautiful views of the ocean and green farm fields below. Only a 5 min drive to the delicious Hawi Farmers Market. Great kitchen for the home cook, and; Internet for those who can’t let go. Let it be a work-vacation single stay or a small family vacation home, after many years in Hawi, they know the cozy, artsy town and its people and gladly give you recommendations. Roads have less traffic meaning less hassle driving to the beach. You’ll beat the Kona crowd too, as some of the Big Island’s nicest white sand beaches are relatively close, perfect for a few hours or a full day of swimming and snorkeling.”

“I’ve nicknamed this place “Hale Aloha” because everyone we met on site and in the towns of Hawi and Kapaau exude the friendly spirit of Aloha. You feel welcomed and at home; casual chit chat can quickly turn into deep and meaningful conversations. Our host anticipated every need and had it on hand. The pictures show exactly what you can expect, including the beautiful ocean view, green meadow and forested area. Complete tranquility in a beautiful mountain setting with caring hosts- the perfect place to relax and set out for nearby adventures.”

“Wow!! … the minute we drove onto the property , I knew this was the type of place I would want for myself. I was totally in awe of the land, home and guest ‘cottage” accommodations, location and surroundings. Having great hosts just made it perfect. I highly recommend this piece of “heaven on earth” for those who love nature at its finest …best grapefruits ever and avocadoes that make the Hass variety pale in comparison. Absolutely , no hesitation to recommend Donna & Kevin’s piece of paradise to anyone .. Thanks for the wonderful memories ….”

“We just spent two wonderful weeks in this beautiful Hawi rental. The accommodations were perfect and the view of North Kohala and the ocean were breathtaking. Our delightful hosts brought us fresh fruit and vegetables every morning. What more could you want? Stay at this property and feel the true meaning of Aloha!”
~ Mary O.

“Donna and Kevin really made us feel at home at their rental. We were given more fresh fruit (as in just off the tree) than we could eat. The living area was comfortable with magnificent views of pasture, water, Maui, and some amazing weather. The Maltz’s have a good knowledge of the area and will point you in the right direction for whatever it is you are seeking. We stayed 11 days and had no desire to leave. Have fun! You will not regret staying here.”

“We have been coming to the Big Island at least twice a year for the last ten years. After two years of staying in luxury hotels and bed and breakfasts in the Kona area, we finally “discovered” Hawi and the North Kohala coast and began renting a house for our visits over the last eight years. Looking for a stronger connection to the people and community life of Hawi we decided to try staying at Donna and Kevin’s house. Although not as private (or expensive) as the house we had been renting) we immediately fell in love with this beautiful microfarm overlooking the coast and Maui. Donna and Kevin were perfect hosts, helpful and friendly but also giving us complete privacy. The sitting room adjacent to our suite has a beautiful ocean and garden view and was the perfect place to read a book, write or work on your computer if the need arises. Donna and Kevin have created a wonderful oasis for visitors looking to experience the beauty and spiritual richness of Big Island life.”

“We spent a memorable week at this wonderful spot. Donna and Kevin are very friendly and their warm welcome and helpful information about local attractions made us feel right at home. We especially enjoyed the abundant supply of fresh citrus fruit and avocado right outside the door. Where else can you pick your oranges and squeeze your own OJ for breakfast, every morning? The house and property were immaculate and the photos are accurate and give you a good idea of the beautiful landscaping and views. We recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxed, well-situated base from which to explore the northern Big Island.”

“If you want a comfortable, peaceful country abode on a gorgeous mini-farm to return to from your daily excursions out along the island’s many-faceted beauties, this is it. The eager and loving hosts are extremely gracious and accommodating, embracing their guests with the true meaning of “aloha”, and providing wonderful recommendations for places to go and things to do. Situated just outside the sweet little town of Hawi, within driving distance to just about anywhere on the island, the deliciously comfortable and spacious bedroom, sitting room, and kitchen are the perfect ending to the day. I hope to return for lengthy stays in the future. Thank you, dear hosts!”

“Our stay here has been nothing short of incredible. The property is perfectly situated to take advantage of the views to Maui and beyond. Very private and spacious, beautifully landscaped garden, fine furnishing and incredibly gracious hosts await you in this tropical paradise. A very healthy and enjoyable alternative to the typical resort type stay. Book it, check in and check out all that the north end of the Big Isle has to offer!”
